Mom Admits Letting Newborn Drown In Toilet
Infant Was Woman's Second To Be Born In Toilet

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A Florida woman who gave birth on a toilet and knowingly allowed the baby to drown will be sentenced March 30.

Shatoya Nelson, then 21, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter. She was originally charged with first-degree murder.

She told investigators she didn't know she was pregnant until she gave birth at her mother's Tamarac home July 21, 2004. According to detectives, Nelson, then 21, said she left the infant in the toilet for several minutes before taking her out and wrapping her in a towel.

The girl's mother discovered the dead baby the following morning and insisted Nelson take the body to the hospital.

Earlier in the day, she had appeared in court on child neglect charges. Detectives said she gave birth to another baby on a toilet the year before, and left him in front of her grandmother's house. The judge ultimately ruled she was fit to take care of her two children.

Those children are now living with her parents.

Nelson's attorney said he'll ask that she be sentenced to probation and counseling.

As a soon to be LEO, I'm sickend by things like this because I know it is only a matter of time before I see it firsthand.

This Shatoya thing should not get counseling and probation. She's 21 and knows damn full well what she did was wrong. I'm all about the aggravated manslaughter charge.

I always love it when gae trots out some horror story and everyone here lines up to pass judgement on the basis of a few paragraphs from an uncited newsource.

Sure the story paints a horrible picture but what about all the information that we don't know?

I've said it before, recently in fact, that current day newsources should be taken with a huge grain of salt and not be relied on for complete, accurate nor unbiased information.

Last time I looked it was still called the Cincinnati Debate Society.

Now if we rename it the Cincinnati Innuendo and Half-Baked Conspiracy Theory Society then I guess it would be appropriate (Hell it would even explain miscreants like my favorite whipping boy) but sadly it aint so.
